Resumo

This work aims to develop an opacifying material from a zeolite, capable of replacing titanium dioxide in the formulation of building paints. The zeolite was synthesized using NaAlO2, KOH and Na2SiO3 in the ratio 1,7:13:7,3 respectively, characterized using x-ray diffraction technique, by the appearance of a broad peak in the region of 25 to 35°q; and using infrared spectroscopy technique, by the bands characteristic of the functional groups of the zeolite at about 450, 560, 615, 742, 983 and 1091 cm-1as being of the Faujasite type.
